Description:

Palouse River flows at the south-eastern part of Washington State until it reaches the canyon, creating an impressive spectacle, the name of which is “Palouse Waterfall”. It is located at Palouse Falls State Park, a 105-acres amazing park, which spreads its territories over a part of Franklin County and a part of Whitman County. This unique park has an interesting geology and history. But of course it is the most recognizable by Palouse Falls, which are not only one of the most beautiful waterfalls of the state but are as well one of the symbols of Washington State.

Here the Palouse River is cascading over a 180-feet cliff and falling down into a small round lake, encircled by sheer cliffs, and continues flowing through a small and beautiful river canyon. Geologically this canyon is not much older than 10,000 years. During the ice age the canyon was not here, the waterfall was not here, even the river wasn’t even here. The canyon was carved by a massive waters of a huge “Ice Age Flood” of Missoula Lake, which also managed to change the a little the direction of Palouse River itself.

The State Park was created here on the third of June, 1951, and now this amazing place invites thousands of tourists to view this magnificent natural wonder. Any waterfall is spectacular in itself, but there are such specimens in the world that you can admire for hours ... Palouse Fall is one of them - incredibly beautiful, majestic!

In summer, near the stream of water, a rainbow shines, and in winter this powerful waterfall freezes, but does not lose its picturesque charm. And if you want to see Palouse Falls in their fullest we recommend visiting Palouse Falls State Park in middle-late spring.
