Description:

The Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibition is considered one of the most visited and newest attractions of Seattle. This must-see attraction was opened in May 2012 and has already become one of the most scenic attractions of the Emerald City.

This exhibition is located at the base of Space Needle, at Seattle Center, and is a new addition to the Space Needle campus. The opening of the exhibition was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the 1962 World’s Fair. The Chihuly Garden and Glass is a permanent exhibition that shows the masterpieces of Seattle’s glass artist Dale Chihuly. This museum is owned by the Space Needle.

Several words should be said about famous Dale Chihuly. He is a Seattle resident, who was born in 1941 in Tacoma, but has had a glass studio in Seattle. His glass art is included in 225 collections around the world, they are found in museums, colleges, botanical gardens, private collections, etc. His special installations can be seen in Jerusalem, Venice, London and Chicago.

The Chihuly Garden and Glass is divided into three main parts: an Exhibition Hall with eight main galleries, a café and a bookstore; the Glass House and the Garden.

Exhibition Hall

The Exhibition Hall includes great galleries, such as Glass Forest, Northwest Room, Sealife Room, Persian Ceiling, Mille Fiori, Ikebana and Float Boats, Chandeliers, Macchia Forest and Drawing Walls.

The tour begins with Glass Forest is one of the artist’s earlier works. These pieces of art were created by Chihuly together with the artist Jamie Carpenter.

The Northwest Room represents Tabac Baskets, which are placed near Native American Baskets. This room represents the love of the author for the region. Here visitors also enjoy photos of Native Americans taken by Edward Curtis as well as blankets and other things.

The Sealife Room shows an ocean geyser with sea creatures.

Persian Ceiling Room is a beautiful gallery room, where the walls are painted with the colored light from the ceiling.

Mille Fiori means “Thousand Flowers” and it is really the most beautiful gallery with glass masterpieces.

The next room is full of beautiful Ikebana and Japanese floats.

The Collections Café is a beautiful dining area with several of personal collections of Chihuly. Here you will enjoy a tasty meal under vintage accordions in the surrounding of the collection of radios and cameras.

For the visitors' convenience online reservations are available on the website of Chihuly Garden and Glass.

Glass House

The Glass House itself is already a piece of art. Created of steel and glass this structure has the height of 40 feet, and occupies the 4,500 sq. feet area of the Garden. Furthermore, the Glass House is a place where one of the largest suspended sculptures is situated. The sculpture is 100 feet long and has 1.340 pieces of red, yellow, orange pieces of Persian glass. A fabulous masterpiece of the incredibly talented author.

The Garden of Glass

This garden area includes four main art works and a great number of small installations in garden plots. But not only the art-pieces are amazingly presious and interesting here, but also the way they are exhibited. The combination of live plants, flowers and glass sculptures is well-thought-out, creative and captivating.

The Bookstore

The bookstore that is situated on the territory of the museum offers different books and DVDs about artist’s art masterpieces. There are plenty of souvenirs and other interesting pieces of art created not only by Dale Chihuly but also by other local artists.

The exhibition section, called Theatre gives the visitors a chance to see the process of the masterpieces' creation by presenting short videos of work done by Chihuly's team in hotshop. This place also hosts various events, about which you may learn on the website of the Exhibition.
