“It was November--the month of crimson sunsets, parting birds,

deep, sad hymns of the sea, passionate wind-songs in the pines." - L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

Travelling around the Palouse area in general or visiting the Kamiak Butte County Park in particular, Kamiak Butte County Park Campground is a great option for overnight, definitely worth your considering.

And may the fact that it is located at the territory of this popular county park, close to quite heavily visited Pine Ridge Trail, does not bother you as this campground is separated from the trail and day-use area, thus making your camping there undisturbed by park visitors.

The campground itself is quite small, offering only seven campsites, which can be available for the campers on “first come – first serve” basis. The campsites are designated for camping tents and can also accommodate a small vehicle, but cannot be used for large RV’s. Among the amenities provided for the campers are picnic tables and fire pits (at every site), drinkable water from the middle of April till the middle of October, and restrooms.

You will find neither electrical nor water hookups at this primitive campground, but what you will find there is much more valuable. Kamiak Butte County Park is a gated park and the gates are closed at dusk, that is why only camping at this campground will give you a unique opportunity to enjoy incredible sunsets and amazing sunrises over the Palouse area from the height of Kamiak Butte.

A short Sunset Trail encircling the campground will offer you a pleasant stroll in the shade of beautiful Ponderosa Pine trees which is especially priceless during the hot summer days.
